Cynthia\u00a0Ndubuisi<\/span><\/b>\u2019s\u00a0road to entrepreneurship started when she saw the pressing concerns of her community in Nigeria.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For one, liquid soaps didn\u2019t exist. People had to use bar soaps to wash their dishes every day. So, Ndubuisi created a plant-derived, non-toxic liquid soap, which led to the launch of her first venture\u00a0EverGlow.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But she didn\u2019t stop there.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She set her sights to their farming industry, where farmers faced challenges in processing one of their main crops \u2013 the cassava plant.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI thought of how we could help farmers process the cassava to reduce their stress and increase their productivity,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>she shared online<\/span><\/a>. \u201cI came up with a fabricated cassava processing machine that farmers can bring their plants to, which can help them peel and grind the cassava, so they can be used in consumer goods.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This resulted in her second endeavour, Kadosh Production Company, which aims to help farmers optimise their cassava farming processes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Indeed, when your business presents a solution to a problem, people will patronise it.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And she usually purchases handbags at peak life moments\u2014whether it\u2019s graduation, the first job, the promotion or the first date.”<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And her collection features exactly that \u2013 versatile pieces that fit every aspect of a millennial woman\u2019s life.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her marketing strategies reflect the millennial woman\u2019s lifestyle, too.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She leverages the power of fans and influencers to promote her brand. She\u00a0even responds to them herself. With their devotion to her brand, her fans have dubbed themselves\u00a0<\/span>Minkettes<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Being an entrepreneur hasn\u2019t exactly been a smooth ride for\u00a0<\/span>Sophia Amoruso<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her first endeavour, clothing brand Nasty Gal, grew exponentially from its humble beginnings as an eBay store in 2006 to a million-dollar empire in the early 2010s.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But how fast it grew was also how fast it fell. After 10 years in the market \u2013 dissatisfied employees, a few lawsuits, and declining sales in between \u2013 Nasty Gal filed for bankruptcy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This didn\u2019t deter\u00a0<\/span>her,<\/span>\u00a0nonetheless.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She built her second business\u00a0<\/span>Girlboss<\/span>\u00a0Media, applying what she learned from the failures of her previous one.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As she revealed\u00a0<\/span>in an interview<\/span><\/a>, she realised her shortcomings in raising capital, hiring executives, and managing a business in general.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was a young, naive founder,\u201d Amoruso said. \u201c[But] I have a firmer grasp today of the way the company spends its money, when the company becomes profitable, how ready we are for a series A \u2026 all the things that I need to back into now and plan for.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Amoruso\u2019s experience shows a more positive perspective on failure \u2013 it’s a way for you to learn how to do better as a business owner.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After a fruitful career in software development, she co-founded Marvell Technology Group. Marvell is one of the top semiconductor companies in the world.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dai was responsible for the use of Marvell\u2019s technology in various markets, such as enterprise, communications, mobile computing, and the consumer space. She also paved the way for developing countries to get better tech access.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This all stems from her aim to encourage more women to pursue a career in STEM.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Women are the future of technology [\u2026]. It’s not just about developing ‘nerdy’ stuff \u2013 it’s about turning technology into fashionable and user-friendly smart solutions. [\u2026] I believe by embracing STEM and leveraging inherent strength of women \u2014 the sense of responsibility, passion, compassion, and pride we dedicate to family and community \u2014 and applying it to business can make women the X factor in the new era of global growth and prosperity,”<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>she said<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dai\u2019s grit is a testament to women\u2019s capability to do anything despite existing norms.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Anita Roddick<\/span><\/b>\u00a0wasn\u2019t only\u00a0known as the founder of beauty retail brand The Body Shop. She was also a human rights activist and an environmental advocate.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Roddick formed The Body Shop to have a source of income for her children while her husband worked abroad. She started with refillable containers and sample sizes and made sure to market with truth in mind \u2013 contrary to the common hype marketing at that time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From there, she saw to it that their ingredients are 100% vegetarian, their products aren\u2019t tested on animals, and their farmers are compensated fairly.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Not only that \u2013 the brand also partners with organisations to launch advocacy-driven campaigns, raising awareness on issues like women\u2019s violence, labour rights, animal welfare, and clean energy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That has gone on even after her death in 2007.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Roddick\u2019s principles as an entrepreneur shows that a business\u2019 purpose isn\u2019t only for earning revenue, but also for driving positive change.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBusinesses have the power to do good,”\u00a0<\/span>she wrote<\/span><\/a>. “That’s why The Body Shop’s Mission Statement opens with the overriding commitment, \u2018To dedicate our business to the pursuit of social and environmental change.\u2019\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
